What If You Just Don’t Know Yet?
I like to live from the idea that I will know what I need to know when I need to know it. It saves an enormous amount of time trying to work out things I simply do not have an answer to yet or to find an answer to things I don’t know in the moment.
I am getting to practise this right now because I am supposed to meet someone next week and I have absolutely no idea whether I want to or not. I have no strong thoughts about it, no particular emotion coming up and no intuitive yes or no. There is just… nothing.
Usually, talking things through helps me. I have mentioned the meeting to James a couple of times because saying something aloud will often bring up what I really think or feel. This time, it hasn’t.
So I am waiting.
Do we always need to know?
There can be a temptation to go looking for an answer when we think we should have one. We go over the situation again, think about what happened before, imagine what might happen next and ask other people what they think.
Other people’s opinions can actually be really useful for me. Quite often, someone will tell me what they think I should do and my reaction immediately shows me what I think! Sometimes I agree and sometimes I don’t 😳
But there are also times when there really is no answer yet. I think there is trust in allowing that too.
When we spend too much time looking backwards, we can get caught up in what has already happened. When we jump too far ahead, we can start worrying about things that have not happened at all and maybe never will. Coming back to the now moment gives us a chance to ask: what do I actually know or feel in this moment?
And the answer might be, I don’t know.
Thoughts, emotions and what we feel in our body
In my last Trust blog, I wrote about listening to the body. For me, emotions are a bridge between the mind and the body.
A thought can bring up an emotion, and when we stay with that emotion for a moment, we can often feel where it shows up physically. We might feel something in our chest, stomach, throat or somewhere completely different. We do not have to immediately work out what it means.
One thing I find useful is simply noticing where I feel an emotion in my body and breathing through the feeling. It gives me a chance to actually experience what is there instead of getting caught up in thinking about it.
And then there is intuition, which is often not as obvious as I would like it to be. Because of my connection to my guides and my self knowledge, I often feel this should come easier, and often it does. For me, there are times when I simply know what feels right in the moment but there are times when it all feels very far away.
I am learning to trust both.
Knowing yourself helps you trust yourself
I am very lucky that I know myself and my purpose well. That has come through years of exploring my own patterns, energy, soul gifts and experiences, and using many of the same tools and techniques that I now use in my work with other people. I studied so many modalities to a practitioner level only to find I was really just doing it for me!
Knowing myself does not mean I always know what to do. Clearly! But I do know what being me feels like, and I know the frequency I want to live from and bring to what I do.
I was listening to Lee Harris (you can tell, I do love him!) talking about owning and holding our own frequency as a practice, and this really resonated with me. We are going to be affected by people, experiences and everything happening around us, but we can become more aware of what feels like us and what takes us away from that.
I think this is part of trusting ourselves too. The more we know and appreciate who we are, the easier it becomes to notice our reactions, listen to what our experiences are showing us and make choices from there. We will not always know straight away, but we can trust ourselves to recognise what feels right when it becomes clear.
And if the answer still doesn’t come?
At some point I will have to decide whether I am going to this meeting. Maybe I will suddenly know. Maybe something will happen that gives me more information. Or maybe I will still have no idea.
If that happens, I can make one small choice.
I can decide I am going and notice how that feels. I can decide I am not going and notice what comes up then. Making a choice gives me something new to respond to, and I can choose again if I need to. I have a small feeling that I will not go but what is holding me back from deciding is that i do not know what to say. I don't like to lie, or make up and excuse.
We can put so much pressure on ourselves to make the right decision or say the right thing, when perhaps we only need to make the next choice.
So if there is something you do not know at the moment, what happens if you stop trying to find the answer for a while? What do you actually know right now?
And if you still don’t know, what is one small choice you could make and see how that feels?
Knowing who you really are
This is one of the things I love about Soul Realignment. It gives you the opportunity to understand more about who you are at soul level, including your soul gifts and characteristics, and to look at patterns or blocks that may be affecting how you are experiencing your life.
For me, there is enormous value in knowing and appreciating who you really are. It does not give you a list of answers for every decision you will ever make. It gives you more of you to come back to.
If you would like to explore that, you can find out more about my Soul Realignment reading and clearing here.
And in the video below, we will explore what happens when you stop trying to make yourself know and give yourself space to notice what is actually there.
Maybe you don’t need the answer yet. You can trust yourself to know when you know, and if you still don’t, you can make one little choice and see what happens next.
