Allowing the Right Thing at the Right Time

Yesterday, I could feel tightness building in my chest as soon as I thought about the emails I needed to write. It was the beginning of stress, that familiar sense that I should get on with them and keep everything moving.

The interesting part was that I felt good overall. When I checked in with my FRED Scale, my energy was around an eight. Then I thought about those emails and felt myself drop to a four.

That was useful information.

My whole day was not difficult. I was not low in energy. It just felt like this one particular task was pulling me out of the state I was in and into pressure.

Letting yesterday be yesterday

I know the energy I bring to my writing comes through in the words. Yesterday, the emails felt impossible. I could have forced them, but I chose to accept that it was not the right time.

I let myself feel how I felt. I stopped turning the emails into proof that I was behind, avoiding something or failing to move forward. They could wait.

This morning, very early, the thought of writing them simply appeared. I opened the email package and wrote two. There was no struggle and very little effort. Before I had time to make a big job of it in my head, they were done.

The same thing happened with this blog. I had planned to write it tomorrow. As I sat down again after breakfast, yes the emails really were first thing šŸ˜€ the whole idea was there, ready to be followed.  I had to write it before it esacped again!

Nervous System Release: Let Your Body Finally Exhale

For me, moving from FRED 4 towards FRED 5 or 6 feels physical. My chest loosens. My mind stops turning every task into something urgent. My nervous system receives the message that everything does not need to happen at once.

This is where allowing becomes very real for me.

My mind likes plans. It likes progress, lists and the reassurance of seeing things completed. My soul knows I can let go and trust that what needs to happen will happen in the right time. My body seems to know when the energy is there, particularly when I stop forcing the timing.

Allowing still includes action. There are moments when something is important now, even if it is not the thing I most want to do. I can take a breath, admit that I would rather be doing something else, and get on with it.

There are also moments when the task can wait. In those moments, pushing uses more energy than the task itself. A pause gives me space to notice where my energy naturally wants to move and like the emails when I finally do them they flow with grace and ease.

Trusting the next thing that arrives

I am learning to ask a different question. Instead of thinking, “How do I make myself do this?” I can ask, “Does this need my attention right now?”

When the answer is yes, I can choose it with awareness. When the answer is no, I can pause and trust that my higher self will guide my mind and body towards the right action at the right time and everything will be done on time.  I still struggle with this sometimes however yesterday gave me proof. I did not abandon the emails. I stopped fighting the fact that they were not ready to be written then. Today, they arrived with more ease than I could have imagined.

Perhaps allowing in the physical can be this simple: noticing the tightness, taking one breath, checking where my energy goes, and letting that information guide my next choice.

Where does your FRED number change when you think about one particular task, and is your body asking you to act, pause or simply exhale?

The free FRED Scale gives you a simple way to notice that change and choose your next step from awareness.
